In 1979, during the Iranian Revolution, six embassy staff members fled and sought refuge in the private home of the Canadian ambassador. It was only a matter of time before they were discovered. The diplomats frantically searched for ways to escape the secret police. CIA rescue expert Tony Mendez devised a plan to get them out of the country. He intended to smuggle the six diplomats out of Iran disguised as a Canadian film crew.
